The FIA World Endurance Championship starts this weekend. And Toyota is determined to prove that their hybrid race car deserves its place on the track.
Developed by the Toyota Racing division, it’s named the TS030 Hybrid. They’re hoping this machine will take them to the podium in the grueling six-hour stint on track at Silverstone in the UK.
It fared dismally at its debut in this year’s Le Mans, succumbing to technical issues and an accident (video below). Both hybrid racers were sidelined before the chequered flag was waved.
There will be only one car this time around. According to Toyota, its aerodynamics have been enhanced to cope with the character of the Silverstone race track – producing more downforce, in comparison to the one that raced and failed at Le Mans.
The World Endurance Championship kicks off this Friday, with two practice sessions. The race will begin at midday on Sunday.
