Alfa Romeo has released the long awaited 4C in South Africa. The Alfa Romeo 4C is a lightweight sporty supercar. It has taken inspiration from the beautiful Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. The 4C was built at the Maserati plant in Modena with two racing bucket seats. It uses materials and design solutions derived from the 8C Competizione.
Built for on the road and racing, the 4C can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. It reaches an exhilarating top speed of 258 km/h. The four-cylinder engine boasts 177kW of power and 350Nm of torque. Not only is the engine responsive and lively, the mixture of different sounds it produces raises the hairs on the back of your neck.
Steering is unassisted and direct. The handling is absolutely impeccable and the 4C takes on the corners even at high speeds with the utmost confidence and finesse. It also feels firmly planted to the road, ensuring that even inexperienced drivers taking on a track for the first time feel safe and sturdy.
The 4C is supremely attractive. It has been designed in a way that many of the aesthetic traits are actually used by the car to ensure the best performance. It has been sculpted to maximize dynamic efficiency, and to help create down force. The 4C exterior comes in colour range of red, white, black and grey.
The design of the interior is too one in which the driver has been taken completely into consideration, with all of the elements placed in the most convenient position to create the best ergonomics possible. All of the digital instruments are faced toward the driver, which admittedly is a little disconcerting, but once you get used to it, it makes a lot of sense and gives the car even more points. All of the car’s information is visible on the instrument panel, comprising an original digital display, containing all the control functions for the Alfa Romeo supercar.
Carbon fibre has been used both inside and out and it gives the car a sharp, sporty look. The seat upholstery ranges from technical fabrics and robust nylon yarns to natural leathers.
The 4C has four very different modes: Dynamic, Natural and All Weather and Race., The aggressive ‘Race’ mode does exactly what the name suggests – it enhances the driving experience on a track. The ‘Dynamic’ mode configures the car to deliver great driving performance. The easy-going ‘Natural’ mode is designed for everyday use. ‘All Weather’ mode makes the car respond gently to accelerator input. This mode will prevent the car from skidding around on wet roads. In manual mode, the Alfa TCT transmission will give the driver complete control.
The 4C is a limited production vehicle. Only 3 500 units will be made annually available to the major world markets. The 4C retails for R870 000.00 and comes standard with a three year / 100 000 km warranty and maintenance plan.
