Audi has taken the wraps off their new A3 Cabriolet, rounding-off the line-up in the wake of the recent A3 Saloon model. And there’s more exciting news for topless Audi enthusiasts: an S3 derivative of the Cabriolet is on the cards.
The new Cabriolet is longer than the previous model and wider too. Luggage space has grown by 60 litres, but the height of this newcomer is shorter than its predecessor’s. It’s lighter by around 50 kilograms.
It certainly looks more aggressive than the model it’ll replace, especially in this racy blue shade, sitting on mean-looking five-spoke alloy wheels. The A3 Cabriolet hands on to its fabric roof, which closes and opens in around 18 seconds. It’s been designed to quell exterior noise; Audi will offer an optional wind deflector and head-level heating.
Engine derivatives for our market are yet to be announced. Abroad it’s available with the usual mix of turbocharged petrol engines, but the 2.0TDI and 1.6TDI versions will be on offer too. Audi has announced preliminary data on the S3 Cabriolet.
Power comes from the 2.0TFSI engine, with 380Nm of torque and a purported 221kW. It promises to do the 0-100km/h in around 5.4 seconds and in usual high-performance Audi fashion, power will be sent to all four wheels. It’ll also have a sports suspension set-up and power is shifted via the six-speed S-tronic transmission, as standard.
