A rich legacy, spanning over six decades precedes the BB Group – whose goal is set at always putting their customers first. Led by Dealer Principal, Marcel Moolman and Sales Manager, George Markram, BB Nissan Hatfield ensures to always provide their customers with excellent service and accurate advice. Lucky Nkosi is one such individual, with whom I enjoyed my test drive of the Nissan Qashqai 1.2T Acenta CVT.

The new Qashqai looks quite different to the original version. Nissan did, however, make sure to add some signature exterior details. The curves and shapes of the bonnet come together at the V-motion grille. Arrow-shaped front headlights accentuate the Nissan signature look and is also evident on the X-Trail and new Micra. Rear headlights were designed to complete the Qashqai look with a 3D effect. 17-inch alloy wheels are included in the 1.2T Acenta CVT.

The steering wheel has a quality D-shaped look and feel. The infotainment system, cruise control and Drive-Assist Display are easily accessible through the leather-clad steering wheel. I quite enjoyed the interior layout of the Qashqai as it’s comfortable, sleek and very user-friendly. The Tekna derivative even has a glass roof which adds to its luxury. Nissan Intelligent Mobility has a variety of information you can toggle between. This includes Caller ID, Safety Shield, Audio, Steering Mode and colour selection. The seats are part leather and have spinal support and cushioned kneepads for optimal comfort on long journeys.

Though a crossover, the Qashqai has the space of a standard SUV. A 60:40 split allows the seats to fold down completely and the boot space to increase from 430-litres to 860-litres! The various stowage compartments add to the space and discourage untidiness in the car. And don’t be deterred by the size of the vehicle when parking as Nissan Intelligent Mobility gives you a virtual birds-eye view with split-scene close-ups. For your parking pleasure, there are four cameras located around the Qashqai: on the nose, side mirrors and the boot.

With regards to safety, the Qashqai is fully kitted for your and your family’s safety. Added to these safety features are six airbags, ABS and Electronic brake-force distribution, Brake Assist System and Hill Start Assist. Another convenience is an electronic parking brake, so you don’t have to struggle with a lever.

The drive is very smooth and comfortable. We drove around the suburbs where I felt the comfort of pulling away and braking. And, on the highway, I got to test the cruise control and was quite impressed with the overall experience.

The Qashqai comes with a 3-year/90 000km service plan, 6-year/150 000km roadside assistance and 6-year/150 000km mechanical warranty.
