The internet is abuzz with rumours of a new BMW 9-Series concept set to debut at the Beijing motor show. As you know we take the term “leak” with a pinch of salt.
Automakers seem too powerful to let slip and they certainly have a hand in releasing fodder to spark interest and discussion around a forthcoming model. Word is that the new 9-Series will compete in the league of Bentley, Rolls-Royce and the higher echelons of the Mercedes-Benz hierarchy.
According to online publication World Car Fans, who cited German magazine Auto Motor und Sport as their first source, the new Beemer will boast a new cockpit philosophy. Apparently it could also be based on the same architecture poised to underpin the next BMW 7-Series and Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Pictured here is the BMW Gran Lusso Concept which was unveiled last year. Perhaps this gives a hint to another spin-off the 9-Series could spawn: a rival for the grand Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. Of course, under their new naming strategy it would have to wear an even number on its tail. If the 9-Series does indeed see fruition, BMW will have succeeded at using every single digit.
