Chinese car maker that is Chery continues to make strides in the local motoring stable by offering value-for-money products that lurk some of the best features as standard a buyer would have to pay extra for in other vehicles.

With that said, the brand has introduced a new model in the range which bridges the gap between the flagship Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 4 Pro variants. Called the Tiggo 7 Pro, the new Chery compact crossover brings with it great levels of technology, luxury and modern design to the upper-midrange SUV market.

Like its duo counterparts, it is available in South Africa in two model variants; Distinctive and Executive.

Specifications

In this regard, the new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro follows the same ‘Life in Motion’ design language worn by the Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro models. The design consists of a hexagonal grille with its three-dimensional diamond-shaped brightwork, slim headlights and deeply scalloped lower bumper plus air intakes.

There isn’t much that differentiates the two trim levels from each other. As standard, both variants come with an edge-to-edge lightbar taillight, roof-mounted spoiler, dual faux exhaust surrounds, electrically adjustable, foldable and heated side mirrors with integrated LED indicators. Both models are further fitted with intelligent wide-angle fog lights and light-bar-type LED daytime running lights.

They both ride on 18-inch alloy wheels which house red brake callipers on the range-topping Executive model. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is available in seven colours including Khaki White, Silver, Vanilla Blue, Caledon Ash, Blood Red, Carbon Crystal Black and two-tone Khaki White with Carbon Crystal Black roof or Blood Red with Carbon Crystal Black roof.

Interior

Saddling inside, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro in Distinctive guise features black leather with contrasting stitching, six-way electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, leather-clad steering wheel which is adjustable in 4 ways, start-stop, 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch LCD screen that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth.

The top-of-the-range Executive model adds Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking and a 360-degree around-view monitor. All models have Rear Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Detection.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the Tiggo 7 Pro has a wheelbase of 2 670 mm, and an overall length of 4 500 mm which should translate to superb headroom, legroom and luggage space.

Engine and Fuel Consumption

Powering the range is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 108 kW at 5,500 rpm and 210 Nm between 1,750 rpm and 4,500 rpm.

All that amount of power is channelled to the front wheels via a CVT transmission with nine pre-programmed spreads. The gear shifter is fully electronic. The engine delivers average fuel consumption of 6.8 l/100km and Chery claims the Tiggo 7 Pro can travel up to 750 km before running out of juice. The fuel tank capacity is 51 litres.
