At a recent media briefing we heard that Citroen has hopes to compete with Audi. Their DS sub-brand will be repositioned with premium edge. A new SUV named the DS 6WR debuts at the Beijing Motor Show. And it’ll be their first authentic and original offering in the segment. Bearing in mind that the current C4 Aircross is more of a badge-engineering exercise.
Designed in Paris, the unique body lines combine SUV styling with DS design cues. It rolls on striking 19-inch wheels. There’s a Control Grip electronic wizard that Citroen says will negate the use of all-wheel drive over trickier terrain. This will also purportedly aid fuel consumption and cut carbon emissions. Power will come from the Peugeot-Citroen Group’s existing array of turbocharged engines.
It sports a new grille design that flows from the two chrome-finished wings connecting it to the headlamps. The incisive light signature features Xenon technology and daytime-running LEDs shaped like a “tuning-fork” according to Citroen. At the rear, the lights appear integrated into the wraparound tailgate. The glass is set in chrome, underlining the 3D design of the lights. To complete the rear signature, DS initials are embossed on the side of each light cluster.
The sculpted style of the wraparound tailgate is underlined at the base with a chrome finish and a twin exhaust. Details on whether the production version of this SUV is coming to South Africa will be announced.
