Founded in 1920 by Jujiro Matsuda, Japanese motor corporation – known as present day Mazda – was initially a cork manufacturing company. Then, a decade later branched out to automobiles. The name “Mazda” originates from Matsuda’s name and also relates to “Ahura Mazda” – a West Asian God of wisdom, intelligence and harmony…
Enter the Mazda CX-3 Dynamic – a clear manifestation of these wise words, attested to during a test drive with CMH Mazda Menlyn Sales Executive, Linden Jacobs.
This elegant crossover incredibly combines innovation, bold design and flexibility that we all actively seek in a vehicle. The front focuses on the attractive grille, extending through to the chrome branches and into the striking halogen headlamps. Powerful lines and curves lead you to the rear where you’ll find wraparound windows which not only look beautiful, but also improves visibility when driving.
The interior offers ample shoulder and legroom. Adding to the space is the 264-litre boot which easily accommodates school bags, the monthly shopping or ample luggage. The second-row seats have a 60:40 split, providing extra loading space when needed.
A keyless entry into the CX-3 immediately greets the occupant with a bold, yet sporty dashboard. The seats have cloth upholstery and are extremely comfortable. The steering wheel, handbrake and gear shift are fashionably enveloped in leather.
A trip computer located on the cluster displays handy data about your trip and the vehicle itself. You can access and switch the information as required from your multifunctional steering wheel. Each area of the steering wheel has buttons allocated to a specific task. On the right, you can set the cruise control, and on the left you can access your Mazda Connect infotainment system.
Standard on the Dynamic is the Mazda Connect 7-inch touch screen infotainment system. One can easily connect to Bluetooth™ and listen to music through six speakers located inside the vehicle. Other functions of the infotainment system include AUX, USB, AM/FM radio and CD player – and also allows you to make phone calls through your connected device.
The drive is extremely smooth and agile with its 6-speed manual transmission. The crossover build allows for an easy descend from pavement to road. From uphill climbs to downhill handling, the CX-3 performs like a pro. Technical design features renders certain functions non-accessible when driving over a certain speed, to ensure minimal distraction. An example of this is the touch screen, which forces you to access the system using the buttons on the steering wheel or dial in the center console.
Some innovative and dynamic safety features included as standard in this 2.0-litre Dynamic derivative are six airbags, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Launch Assist and whiplash-minimising in the front seats.
To further build confidence in their product, Mazda includes a 3-year/unlimited mileage factory warranty, 3-year roadside assistance, 3-year warranty plan and 5-year corrosion warranty.
