Established in 1870, Mitsubishi has come a long way with a reputation of power and reliability. Its history extends as far back as the Second World War when they manufactured military aircrafts. It is said that some of the associated pilots were amazed at its maneuverability and success in combat.
This reliability and versatility reflect through modern Mitsubishi vehicles. CMH Mitsubishi Menlyn is a dealership conveniently based on the corner of January Masilela & Garsfontein Road, Menlyn. I was pleasantly eager to test drive the Mitsubishi ASX with New Car Sales Manager, Orapeleng Mpolokeng, who has a clear passion for the brand.
The Mitsubishi ASX is quite popular on the road as it has everything you need from a crossover SUV. When examining the exterior, I am immediately drawn to its “established” stance. Roof rails and rear mud guards are included for your more adventurous drives, together with front fog lamps and dusk sensing headlamps with wipers to ensure you’ll always see where you’re going – be it harsh weather conditions or muddy terrain. The rear is adorned with a spoiler and high-mounted brake lights. You’ll also notice that the rear window is wider to enhance your vision.
Orapeleng conveyed many fun features and anecdotes about Mitsubishi during the test drive – which made me want the ASX even more. The first interior features to command attention are the comfortable leather seats and the panoramic sunroof. These features are great for a car that is regarded as “compact”. The driver seat has electronic slide, recline and height adjustment – allowing maximum comfort to enjoy your drive. You leather accented steering wheel is also height and depth adjustable for your convenience. As far as infotainment goes, the ASX has a touch screen system with Bluetooth, AUX, USB and AM/FM radio transmission. This along with cruise control are accessible through the multifunctional steering wheel.
It is evident that Mitsubishi wanted the ASX to be extra safe. They included several active and passive safety features to ensure you and your passengers’ safety. Its RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction has certain crush zones to absorb impact and keep collision force as contained as possible. It also includes seven airbags in and around the vehicle. Other safety features include ABS, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Electronic Traction Control, Hill Start Assist and Active Stability and Traction Control.
This crossover really is a perfect mixture of luxury and flexibility. Included, a 3-year/100 000km manufacturer’s warranty, 5-year/90 000km service plan and service intervals of 15 000km.
