The new Ford Ranger Wildtrak comes with many exciting changes. Its stylish interior and state-of-the-art features are perfectly complimented by the exterior design changes of which the new bold grille is most eye-catching. I took the new Ranger Wildtrak for a test drive at Consolidated Auto, Boksburg.

Tech

Stay connected to your world with SYNC 3, quicker and more responsive than ever before. The fully integrated, voice activation system enables the use of your favourite devices while your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes on the road ahead.

Included in the SYNC 3 system is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which enables you to control certain apps on your phone using the touchscreen, steering wheel controls and of course voice prompts. Make calls, listen and reply to messages and listen to music and podcasts. You’ll also be able to get voice direction from apps like Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze.

Power & performance

The Ranger has an 800mm water-wading capability, Electronic Locking Rear Differential and driver-assist features, which makes tough tasks look easy, whether it’s working on the job or heading off-road on the weekends.

Its advanced Bi-Turbo diesel engine’s two turbos work in sequence to deliver 157kW of power and 500Nm of torque, combined with a state-of-the-art 10-speed automatic transmission.

Safety & security

The new Ranger comes with Lane-keeping Assist which monitors road markings and detects any unintentional lane changes. It then alerts the driver by vibrating the steering wheel. If there is no response from the driver the steering wheel will vibrate, and it will actually direct you back to your lane.

Automatic Emergency Braking and Pre-collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection is also standard with the new Ranger. At speeds more than 3.6km/h, the Pre-collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection looks out for cars that stops suddenly or pedestrians that step into the road. It then applies brakes if you don’t.

With the clever system of front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera in the new Ranger, you can see what’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console and park in tight spaces with the help of virtual lines.
