Consolidated Auto Ford in Boksburg recently received the all-new Ford Figo! As I approached the dealership, the Figo stood at the entry-way, welcoming patrons with a face reflective of a contagious smile. Accompanied on my test drive by friendly and confident Sales Executive, Gerald Parker who offered some insight…

Exterior

The most striking difference in appearance is the new front-bumper design. The fog lamp borders give it the previously mentioned ‘smiling’ appearance – which I must admit adds a sense of eagerness to jump in and start driving! Moving around toward the rear, the tail light cluster changes and the new rear bumper shape gives this model a more modern look. The black honeycomb grille mirrors an appropriately modern look.

Interior

Updates on the interior include the center console and upper instruments, a neater audio design, new fabric inserts on the door panels and modern seat fabrics. The front windows are electrically powered and the vehicle itself is fixed with a factory immobiliser.

The audio system is fitted with Bluetooth, USB and FM/AM radio. Located on the upper section of the center console is a USB port and a device docking base, enabling you to play music through the car’s audio system or safely accessing your phone when needed. It also allows a suitable view if you like to use the GPS on your mobile phone.

Featured on the cluster is a trip computer, an electronic trip and odometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and warning lamps.

Safety includes driver and passenger airbags, ABS, drive-away locking, manual rear door child locks and seatbelts all-around.

The space in this vehicle is amazing. It is entirely appropriate for young adults, families or anyone who would like to own a spacious sedan. Boot capacity is at 445-litres and can be extended by the 60/40 split of the back seats. The spare wheel compartment can accommodate a full-sized 14-inch spare.

The Drive

The driver’s seat is very comfortable and easily adjustable. I thoroughly enjoyed the size and feel of the steering wheel, which is also adjustable. The indicators are conveniently placed on the right-hand side of the steering wheel – enabling the driver to change gears and indicate at the same time.

This particular derivative was the 1.5 Ambiente with a 5-speed manual transmission.  Pull-away was effortless and quick – which was especially notable by the naturally-aspirated engine. Being a Ford enthusiast, Gerald coached me on the uniqueness of the Figo. Every now and again, he asked me to gear up to fifth (though we were only going 60km/h), and the Figo would oblige without any difficulty. Another trick he was eager to demonstrate was secretly switching on the aircon, and because this vehicle has such good aspiration, I barely noticed the difference in performance!

The Figo comes with a 4-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty, 5-year/unlimited kilometer corrosion warranty, 3-year/unlimited kilometer roadside assistance and 4-year/60 000km service plan. The Ford Figo 1.5 Ambiente Sedan offers affordability, fuel-efficiency and space for those who need a value-for-money vehicle with an added element of style.
