The Geely GC2 costs R89 900. For that price one expects nothing more than an engine and four wheels.
But as the Chinese automakers have proven, more is more and it needn’t affect the price. Quality might be another debate.
The GC2 comes standard with air-conditioning, electric windows, an audio system with four speakers as well as USB connectivity. Interestingly, they’ve also thrown in an on-board fire extinguisher.
The toys are there, but it’s disappointing on the safety front. It doesn’t have airbags. Nor does it have anti-lock brakes. Those are imperatives that add to the assurance of parents seeking cars for their newly-licensed kin.
Power comes from a 997cc, three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It produces 50kW and 88Nm of torque. Included is a three-year/100 000-kilometre warranty.
