Group 1 Nissan, headed by Dealer Principal, George Stegmann and Sales Manager, Francois Jacobs, is a friendly dealership located close to The Glen shopping center. With them being one of only 15 Nissan megadealers in South Africa, I am pleased at being offered a test drive of the new Micra with Sales Executive, Lisa Netto.

If you’ve seen any of the previous Micra models, you’ll immediately notice the drastic changes made to the newest version. It now features a sharp, V-shaped face with Nissan’s signature arrow-shaped LED daytime running lights. The rear looks mighty and stable with its daring headlamps and a sporty roof spoiler.

Lively front and rear fog lights ensure you have optimal vision in foggy conditions. For synergy, Nissan decorated the Micra with body coloured outside mirrors and 16-inch alloy wheels (standard on the Acenta model).

The shape, curves and trimmings in the Micra are bold and athletic. This is accentuated by the hand brake and gear lever trimmings, chrome door handles and nifty cloth upholstery.

Now that this urban beast has commanded my attention, I am excited to embark on my drive…

Nissan incorporated smart technology to ensure the ultimate driving experience. The cluster is adorned by a 5-inch Advanced Drive Assist Display that keeps you informed about your driving and your trip. Located on the center console is a 7-inch touchscreen which includes Bluetooth, USB, AUX and AM/FM radio. The Drive Assist Display and infotainment system is accessible through the multifunctional steering wheel.

Nissan Intelligent Mobility ensures you are safe in most situations. For collision prevention, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) monitors your steering, braking and handling and reduces speed and applies brakes accordingly. Auto Hazards automatically enables the hazard lights if unexpected braking occurs. Six airbags, Zone Body safety and impact absorbers keep you safe in case a collision does occur.

In the cabin, the steering wheel and driver’s seat are easily adjustable to suit your preferences. Though the interior has a sporty shape, Nissan lowered the seating position to allow taller people to drive the Micra comfortably.

This 66kW hatch surprised me as we drove around the Glen. Lisa guided me onto a steep uphill and I was astounded how the Micra gracefully took on the challenge. Lisa herself drives the Micra and says she loves every second of it – which is understandable once you get a taste of the driving experience. Cruise control facilitates long trips and because of its fuel efficiency, doesn’t cost an arm or leg.

Nissan offers a 3-year/90 000km service plan and 6-year/150 000km warranty plan on the Micra. Head down to Group 1 Nissan The Glen and check out the brand new Micra today!
