Traffic congestion will always be a problem, especially at certain times of the day, but there are a few ways you can help alleviate it. Here are some tips:
Don’t hurry ahead
If there is traffic congestion don’t speed up every time you get a break, because you will have to slam on your brakes again. Try to relax because you are not going to get anywhere faster than anyone else.
Go easy on the brakes
Frequently hitting your brakes causes traffic congestion because the drivers behind you are following your lead – this slows down traffic and makes the situation worse. If you are in stop-and-go traffic, rather drive slower in order to avoid braking often.
Avoid ‘rubber necking’
‘Rubber necking’ is one of the main reasons for traffic congestion. If there is a car accident people tend to gaze out of their window, consequently slowing traffic down.
Create a car length of space between the front of your car in order to avoid accidents while stuck in traffic, and in case you need to swerve out of the way.
Use a different route
Consider taking a different route. Use maps and apps to help you choose various routes to avoid traffic congestion.
You can also consider carpooling with colleagues or friends. Not only does it save on fuel, but you would also have someone to talk to.
