Bongani Skosana, a familiar face at Hyundai the Glen, was incredibly excited to showcase the Hyundai i30 to me this week. Being his favourite car in the range, the i30 encompasses everything he feels the Hyundai brand stands for: quality, reliability and a superb sense of style. Being part of the Hyundai family for the past ten years, Bongani is accomplished in his knowledge of the products and services offered at the Glen Dealership, and seems to be bursting at the seams with information about this superb hatchback.
With the support of humble and disciplined Dealer Principal Sean Simpson, Bongani feels that the team spirit, commitment to client satisfaction and a respectful, considerate approach to clients is inherent to the Dealership. With this in mind, Bongani is appointed by Mandy Kleinhans to showcase the i30 to me, and he does so with aplomb:
According to Bongani, the i30 is an underrated vehicle that does not receive the attention it rightfully deserves – he notes that the i30 is a class-leader in terms of features, efficiency and safety (EuroNCAP 5), which all combines beautifully for a respectable price. The 1.6 Executive variant which I am test driving, he notes, is one of the best hatchbacks available; with a velvety smooth drive and three driving modes (Flex-Steer, which allows you to customise your driving experience), Bongani is enthusiastic that the i30’s popularity will grow exponentially as the vehicles capabilities become known.
From my perspective, the i30 is a great-looking car, with prominently sport-lines, a proud and bold grille that enhances the cheeky look of the car, and a solid, grounded feel to it. The interior is superb, with high-quality finishes that make you feel more like you are driving a big, luxury sedan – together with all the bells and whistles in terms of infotainment, which is set up in a concise, logical lay-out on the dashboard. The cockpit itself provides a sense of competence and gives me a boost of confidence to navigate traffic with ease and comfort. I love the nippy, lithe feeling of the car, as though it is pulsing with energy, and find it an absolute pleasure to face the harsh traffic in and around Johannesburg.
On-board features include ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Management, Cruise Control, Rear Park assist and sassy 16-inch alloys, which make the i30 one of the best looking – and most pleasurable driving – hatchbacks so far. Together with a 5 year/150 000 kilometre manufacturer’s warrant and an additional 2 year/50 000 kilometre Powertrain warranty, Hyundai also offers a 5 year/150 000 kilometre Roadside assistance. Hyundai the Glen’s fantastic sales team maintain this incredible vehicle as a flagship in the range.
