Subaru Pretoria’s marketing manager Gavin Gordon was entirely confident when he released the Impreza for my test drive. Redesigned for 2017, the Subaru Impreza’s boasts a roomy interior, in fact Subaru has moved the wheels even farther apart to open additional space in the cabin. The interiors upgraded materials, modern technology and striking useful safety features, with fresh exterior styling and additional power for the four-cylinder engine with this and more, I think this Impreza is well positioned in this competitive segment.
The Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT) can be a little loud at hard accelerations, but this shortcoming is not enough to cross it off your list. With a good combination of standard features and a reasonable price point, I strongly would recommend the latest Impreza from Subaru. I especially enjoyed the tech features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which caters for both Apple and Android devices. The Premium range offers safety features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. With the Impreza’s remarkable sound system, adaptive cruise control and reverse automatic braking and its tech features mentioned above I firmly believe that this year Subaru has brought the Impreza more in line with its competitors.
The Impreza also boasts automatic headlights, heated front seats, windshield and exterior mirrors, and many more standard features, my favorite being the famous blind-spot monitoring and responsive forelight.
Though it’s almost impossible to judge the ride of a car in suburban Johannesburg, let me tell you that the handling of the Impreza is razor sharp. The steering is bang on and it doesn’t lose composure very easily. Typically, this Subaru has a few options to change the performance of the car to make it even crisper.
The Impreza, a capable, agile and an authoritative sedan, finds a nice window of opportunity to reiterate faith to their diehard fans but also attract the new comers for it’s the perfect compromise between practicality and outright elegance. Additionally, an improved and welcoming highlight would be the 5year 150000 km warranty that Subaru have proudly introduced affirming its commitment and support to their deserving clients.
