I am back at Mahindra East Rand and New Car Sales Manager Rudie Le Roux is getting ready to take me on a test dive of their new Mahindra KUV 100 NXT K8.
Now from the outside the Mahindra KUV100 NXT looks like a raised, higher-than-normal compact hatch. It gives the you that feel of your smaller or medium sized SUV’s in terms safety and comfort. It sports an aggressive front grille and a stylish front and rear bumper with a silver skid plate. The car comes fully fitted with dual front airbags and ABS standard across the range and EBD is also available on the K8 spec.
We leave the dealership and I can instantly feel that it’s going to be a very comfortable drive. Inside the seats are extremely comfortable with the gear shift is placed in easy reach of my left hand high up next to the wheel. With high quality durable fabric upholstery, the interior has certainly improved and best suited for busy and active families who will be jumping around ever so frequently. The K8 spec comes standard with sporty 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, a 7 inch infotainment system with Bluetooth, rear parking sensors, LED daytime running lights, front fog lights, automatic folding mirrors with turn indicators (to avoid those scratches at the mall when people are reversing out) and remote locking.
It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox that is very responsive and quite the pleasure to operate. The electric power steering with steering mounted controls ensures that you are not reaching around in the car and everything is at your fingertips. It took a little while for me to get used to the gear lever being so high up but after a few minutes I had gotten the hang of it and enjoyed the convenience of it being placed higher up.
I push it a bit to try test the speed as we go onto the freeway and I am instantly impressed by the power of the mFalcon engine. The three-cylinder mFalcon G80 petrol engine has maximum power of 61 kW at 5500rpm and a maximum torque of 115nm at 3500rpm. Talk about dynamite coming in small packages!
Overall, I was really impressed with the new KUV100 NXT K8, especially when taking into consideration its competitive pricing. The G80 K8 offers ample standard features for a car in its price range and when looking at other competitors currently in the market. Can’t wait to see what next Mahindra has in store for us. Well done Mahindra!
