The Lazarus Motor Company began in Bronkhorstspruit over 60 years ago. Today, their legacy endures through the five respected vehicle brands showcased at the Lazarus Motor Group in Centurion. Among these brands is the very luxurious Mazda. Passionate and knowledgeable Sales Executive, Neo Modikoane is extremely well versed in the Mazda brand and it clearly showed during our test drive of this courageous crossover.
The CX-5 was first launched in 2012 and is one of the first Mazda models to have the SKYACTIV Technology and KODO Soul of Motion styling. My heart melted the moment I laid eyes on the car. The front reflects a sharp design, complemented by defining curves. The honeycomb grille and Adaptive LED headlamps enhance its stylish appearance. Contributing to its purposeful demeanor is a fierce rear spoiler and powerlift tail gate.
Mazda went the extra mile to equip this crossover with quality materials and technology. The steering wheel, gear knob, handbrake and all 5 seats are fitted with premium leather for optimal comfort. The driver’s seat is electrically adjustable with memory to accommodate more than one driver. I immediately noticed the power sliding and tilt glass sunroof – which adds to the feeling of prominence when sitting in the car.
I really appreciated the cockpit as all the controls are carefully positioned for driving comfort with minimal distraction. Across the center console you will find the user-friendly, full-colour 7-inch MZD infotainment system. Features included in the infotainment system are AM/FM radio, CD player, AUX, USB, Bluetooth and SatNav which can all be accessed by the multifunctional steering wheel. A BOSE ten-speaker sound system is standard on the Individual and Akera models.
Another modern and convenient feature, that completely astonished during my drive, was the full-colour transparent Head-Up Display (HUD) which allows the driver to view data (such as drive speed) without having to shift your eyes from the road. The back-row seats fold-down in a 40:20:40 manner to suit specific boot space requirements. The back seats have an arm rest with added USB ports for charging capabilities.
The CX-5 is the epitome of modern driving. It includes up-to-date features such as keyless entry and push engine start. Cruise control is standard in all derivatives.
Safety was of high priority in designing the CX-5. There are six SRS airbags located throughout the SUV. An interesting safety feature is the G-Vectoring Control (GVC) which assists the driver in handling around tricky corners. As the driver turns the steering wheel, this software tactfully cuts down on engine power and adds up to 5 kilograms over the front tyres – allowing more grip as the vehicle takes the corner. Truly impressive!
Other safety features include Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Smart City Brake and Driver Attention Alert.
Mazda offers a 3-year/unlimited kilometer warranty, 3-year MazdaCare unlimited kilometer roadside assistance and 3-year MazdaCare unlimited kilometer service plan.
