Mazda East Rand recently presented me with the lovely Mazda 2 to test drive, assuring me it would blow my mind with its treasure-trove of features and accessories. Loving the look of the athletic and sassy Mazda 2, I did not hesitate to take it for a spin from the dealership floor in Boksburg.
My first impression of the Mazda 2 is the compact, smooth and agile design – comfort and convenience wrapped up in a jaunty design that speaks to memories of carefree days as a student. It gives off a decidedly young and vibey feel as I settle into the comfortable bucket seats and glance around the well-spaced, modern cabin. The dashboard boasts a lively console that is easily accessible and that looks good, whilst housing all the needed knobs and dials to keep you entertained: a multi-function steering-wheel (which is adjustable to just the right reach) controls an impressive audio system, from which you could play all your favorite tunes from either CD, radio, Ipod or other device through its AUX jack, USB input, and even Bluetooth connection.
I’m told that for this lively little vehicle, add-on features that would rock the world of a student include a 7 inch touchscreen display from which to manage your media files as well as an internet radio integration system that allows you to access and organize web content. Furthermore, you could pimp your ride out with bigger alloy wheels, a chrome exhaust extension and playful grille decorations if you were so inclined. A shark fin antenna completes that package and leaves me feeling like I am back in the high-spirited days of my youth, where I could nip around traffic easily and comfortably, whilst jamming to my favorite playlist, and having the convenience of air con for those hot summer days. I find myself imagining road trips with the friends (easily done thanks to generous boot space for this hatch back), make-up tutorials in the car (no problem, thanks to vanity mirrors in the front) and enough safety features to set even the most overprotective parent at ease.
Further add-ons to improve safety include rear park assist, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring; standard airbags and a trip computer with 4 functions provide the kicker to this deal as I can imagine the anxious parent feeling more at ease knowing their child can drive in safety (and style!) to and from varsity, college or that job they are hoping will deliver their first big break.
True to the word of the team at Mazda East Rand, the Mazda 2 is packed with features and the possibilities of a life lived with adventure and excitement. It drives exceptionally well and boasts class leading fuel economy (whilst being environmentally friendly to boot). It has all the trimmings, style and accessories needed to keep the younger generation happy, whilst maintain the high standard of reliability, safety and convenience which the more mature generation would appreciate. This vehicle proved to indeed be a delight on all fronts!
