For the first time in South Africa, Mitsubishi is taking a step into A-Segment territory. The Mitsubishi Mirage hopes to be as successful here as it has been overseas.

It comes with a colour spectrum which promises to liven up the funky little car even further. It has a rounded face and the five-door wears 14 or 15-inch wheels. It also gains personality from its tail light clusters.

The Mirage arrives in the form of three varying derivatives. Starting the Mirage range is the 1.2 Mivec GL, which includes keyless entry, colour-coded bumpers, a third rear brake light, electric power steering with a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, a multi-information display, front electric windows and manual air conditioning as standard. The Mirage 1.2 Mivec GLX represents the mid-range model. It adds a number of basic features onto the GL model but includes an accessory socket and a USB port added to the audio system. The range topper Mirage is the 1.2 Mivec GLS, which features keyless starting to complement the keyless entry, rear electric windows, auto up/down for the driver’s window, fully automatic climate control and front fog lights.

Each derivative is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine with 57 kW of power and 100Nm of torque.

The GL model will retail for R124 900, the GLX for R134 900 and the R144 900 for the top of the range GLS. All Mirage models will be backed by a 3-year/ 100 000 km warranty. Service intervals are set at every 15 000 km, and a 2-year/ 30 000 km service plan is included in the retail price. It will be launching with a R1 899 per month finance proposition which includes 12-months comprehensive insurance.
