It’s only natural for Mercedes to gush about their S63 AMG. They say it sets new standards in driving dynamics, lightweight construction and efficiency. Details were released on the monster executive saloon, which promises to be meaner and leaner.
Let’s get the numbers out the way. Mercedes claims 585hp (430kW) and a mammoth torque output of 900Nm. The 0-100km/h dash will be dispatched in 4.4 seconds and interestingly, the all-wheel drive 4MATIC version does it in 4 seconds flat.
It’s got a 5.5-litre V8 engine with two turbochargers. But like any other contemporary Mercedes, it features a host of technologies designed to bring greater efficiency, like stop-start and alternator management. This eight-cylinder mill already meets the EU6 emissions requirements regulations, due to come into force in 2015. An exhaust system with controllable flaps enhances – or mutes – the engine sound, according to your preference.
It’s business as usual on the outside, with the exciting array of AMG body bits and big alloy wheels. As an option, you can have ceramic high-performance composite brake systems. Your chauffeur will be thankful when he’s rushing you to those important business meetings.
The beastly Benz is set to make its world premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.
