The latest iteration of the iconic rally-bred racer from Subaru is set to be launched here late next month. According to them, the newcomer will offer a premium feel without eschewing those high-performance hallmarks of its predecessors.
Both models will be available in Premium grade specification levels. Everything is standard and Subaru says there are no options available. Some highlights include a sunroof, LED daytime-running lights, rain-sensing wipers and a rear-view camera. Full leather upholstery also features, in addition to keyless access and a colour infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB accommodation.
The WRX ditches the 2.5-litre mill from the outgoing version, in favour of a two-litre engine. Power has been unaffected, with a 197kW and 350Nm output. Naturally, it has their Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and is said to make the 0-100km/h sprint in six seconds flat. For the first time the WRX will be available with Subaru’s CVT Lineartronic transmission. We’ve had many talks about this with their marketing folks, who assure that it won’t disappoint. Buyers can also have a traditional six-speed manual.
You can pop into any Subaru dealership in South Africa and place your order. Pricing will be confirmed at a later date. But we hear that it could undercut rivals like the Volkswagen Golf R. Be sure to stay tuned for our launch drive impressions on 22 May.
