The all-new Nissan Navara is for anyone who enjoys its tough SUV style and workhorse capabilities during the week, while indulging in its ability to create fun-filled weekend family adventures. I took a test drive in this rugged 2.3D SE 4×4 DC MT at Nissan The Glen.

Power & efficiency

Power, acceleration and fuel efficiency work together in the all-new Navara, which is powered by an advanced twin-turbo engine. The small turbo gets you going at low engine speeds while the larger one delivers direct, continuous power for longer.

The twin-turbo diesel engine with six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission delivers excellent acceleration and efficiency at the same time – generating 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque.

This 4×4 offers excellent capabilities both on-road and off-road and can handle most terrains with Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and Electronic Locking Rear Differential. In addition, its Shift-on the-fly technology makes it much easier and more practical to shift from 2WD to 4H while driving up to 100km/h.

Interior & features

I found the seats to be quite comfortable and the interior extremely spacious. They seemed to create a neutral postural position, which would definitely make longer drives more bearable.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel has audio controls with Bluetooth, allowing you to make and answer calls, as well as operate the audio system, without having to take your eyes off the road.

The Advanced Drive Assist Display provides all the driving information you need in one place. From fuel economy to song tracks, the 3D depth and tilt design lets you take it all in, at a glance.

Safety

Compared to its predecessor the all-new Nissan Navara has improved safety features, including: Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Traction Control System (which allows you better control on the road by sensing when a wheel starts to slip, then automatically reducing engine power or applying brake pressure to help restore traction), Vehicle Dynamic Control and Brake Limited Slip Differential.

The Zone Body Concept helps to absorb the impact and protect the passenger compartment during a collision. It features a high-intensity cabin structure with crossmembers and reinforcements, front and back crumple zones, and an energy-absorbing steering column.
