French car manufacturer, known for developing really beautiful vehicles with fantastic features at relatively affordable prices, has taken on even more meaning with the release of the gorgeous Renault Clio GT line which I have the privilege of previewing this month.

At the BB Hatfield Renault Dealership, I spend some time with Dealer Principal André Gouws who can say that he has more than two decades of experience in the motoring industry. His philosophy on customer service is a reworking of what it means to care for clients: his belief in the personal touch when it comes to dealing with clients is manifested in the commitment of the Dealership to developing and maintaining professional, trust-based relationships with their clients. With numerous repeat customers and follow-up clients, André notes that team members are often requested by name. Clearly a product of their philosophy on prioritising the client, this Dealership has developed a fantastic reputation in the local community. Having also invested a great deal of time in training, equipping and mobilising the right team members in the right roles within the Dealership, André is proud of his hard-working and dedicated team.

Sales Representative Karen Steenkamp is one of those strong, loyal employees who – with 24 years of experience in the industry – can state that her passion for people and the Renault brand is what keeps her motivated. As a vehicle enthusiast, Karen’s service motto is to put the client first and give the best service to them that she possibly can. As a fan of the Renault Clio GT line, she notes with a wry smile that she feels Renault is an underestimated brand, and that this sexy, funky vehicle needs to be seen to be believed.

With various derivatives, the Clio GT Line is the top of a 5-derivative line-up, and is most definitely within Karen’s description of being a really sexy vehicle. With curves in all the right places, a sporty-look to the front end and strong, bold shoulders, the Clio is unique to look at and definitely stands out. The interior is possibly one of the best looking dashboards on a small vehicle I have yet to see; it is neat and well laid out with a gorgeous centre console that houses the infotainment system. The touchscreen system is released standard with navigation, which is a huge plus.

There are sporty touches throughout the cabin which is finished with chrome and gloss black materials, and the steering wheel has traces of racing DNA. Spacious and roomy in the front, the Clio is ideal for a small family as well as the driven and motivated young professional. A whole range of storage compartments are available, with a big glove box, 3 cup holders (but sadly no armrest) and stowage in the doors. The boot opens to a spacious loading bay which is the best in its segment, and is supremely practical. There are also four airbags as standard.

The GT line has a superbly efficient engine which produces 140 nM torque and keeps the fuel consumption low at 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres whilst still allowing you to feel the responsive and powerful take-off. The new energy engines are innovative and hot off the race circuit, also helping to keep CO2 emissions lower than competitors in this segment. Fitted with Renault’s first 3-cylinder turbo engine that features a very low inertia turbo, brilliant and dynamic driving is possible thanks to the combination of variable valve timing. With a starting price of R269 900, the Clio GT line is penned to be the best in its segment for value-for-money as well as features.

With a 100% open door policy, André Gouws, Dealer Principal re-affirms his commitment to the customer by sharing with me that when a client was not satisfied with a particular product or service recently, he personally took the time to drive with them in their vehicle, and oversee the complete repair of the situation thereafter. With a hands-on, invested and involved DP such as this, BB Hatfield Renault is sure to continue growing exponentially – what a superb and fulfilling experience it has been getting to know this team!
