It’s the beginning of the new year and what better way to kick start it than a test drive? It’s been a while since I last took anything out for a spin and I am excited to start off with the Opel Adam at Williams Hunt Randburg. I am greeted with a warm friendly smile and New car sales Exec Douglas is more than willing to give me an intro to the vehicle.

Just standing beside it I am instantly impressed with the sporty exterior of the vehicle and I cannot wait to get a feel of it on the road. The Opel Adam first hit our South African shores in 2014 and was introduced as the “must have lifestyle accessory.” It was the first of its kind and aimed at a specific market. Needless to say, its distinctive look and variety of customization options made it stand out in the crowd.

As I step into the vehicle, I am instantly impressed with the interior of the Adam. It offers a stylish yet comfortable interior. Its features are comfortable and easy -on-the-eye. Not only are the seats comfortable but they offer support too. The touchscreen and user interface are easy to use, and I can connect my devices with ease. The Adam infotainment system offers both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also make use of AUX and Bluetooth facilities. The Adam comes fitted with impressive safety equipment offering six airbags, ABS, ESP and hill assist-to mention a few.

Seeing as it is an exciting city car, the Adam drives like a dream. It is a smooth yet firm drive and handles its stops and corners with grace. I have to say, the speed pick up as we drive on to the highway is almost effortless. The Adam Jam is a 1.0 litre three-cylinder turbo engine. It offers 85kW of power and 170Nm of torque all brought together with a six-speed manual transmission. I think the Adam is proof that dynamite does come in small packages.

To add on to its many specifications, the Adam also offers park assist. It utilizes the Intellilink Systems’s Park Assist 2. This system allows for the vehicle to recognize parallel and perpendicular parking spaces using its sensors. The switch between Eco and City mode also assists in making it easy to drive into the desired parking spot with no extra hassle.

The front of the Adam is spacious with particularly deep footwells. And if you are looking for more, the rear seats fold down to create 663l of boot space-ideal for that bit of extra luggage while exploring the countryside on a roadtrip. This nippy car would be an ideal first car for that first-year student or a young adult just starting out in their career looking to be able to get to work in a jiffy.

The Adam Jam also comes with a WARRANTY & SERVICE plan.

•             Warranty & Roadside Assistance – 3 Years / 120 000 km

•             Anti-Corrosion Warranty – 12 Years / Unlimited km

•             Service Intervals – 12 Months / 15 000 km

•             Service Plan – 3 Years / 60 000 km
