I am back at Williams Hunt Randburg for another test drive and I cannot contain my excitement. I am curious to see what I will be driving next, and I am told today it will be the Opel Grandland X-Automatic.

The reintroduction of the Opel brand in South Africa has been quite successful. With the introduction of the Opel Grandland to compete in the competitive crossover/SUV segment. The brand is definitely here to stay and are confident about the future.

The Grandland X is one of the lightest vehicles in its segment something that contributes to its acclaimed fuel efficiency. The one I get to drive today comes in striking ruby red, almost metallic looking color. I am already taken by the sleek and sporty exterior. The Grandland has an impressive quality build with its completely modern styling and equipment of a high standard.

The Opel Grandland comes with a few impressive features. Front fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels and an aluminium roof rails just to mention a few. And all these come as standard.  The Opel Grandland X Enjoy 1.6T Automatic comes with a choice of the Plus Package. The Plus Package includes a panoramic sunroof and the satnav 900 Intellilink infotainment system.

The Grandland X is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol unit which delivers 121 kW and 240 Nm to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The drive is pleasant and the Grandland is quite firm on the road. It drifts swiftly through the city traffic and comes to a clean and calculated stop at the traffic lights. I am more than impressed at this point. I decide to take it onto the highway to get a feel of its pickup and control at a higher speed. The steering is accurate and in combination with the sporty suspension it aids the feeling of agility from behind the wheel.

Fitted with a 5.0 Intellink Infotainment System that offers built in navigation and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity making taking calls and music streaming a breeze. The steering has your functionality buttons which came in handy when I decided to turn the music up to get a feel of the impressive sound system. Easy access and comfortability, that is the best way to describe the interior setup of the Opel Grandland.

I am kind of disappointed as my test drive comes to an end. I was starting to enjoy the test drive a little more than I should. The Grandland would be ideal for those long family vacation drives. It offers enough space, comfortability and style for the whole family. Well done Opel!
