Meet the new Seat Leon ST, the first ever Leon estate car. Yes, it’s not relevant to our market. Given that wagons get no love in South Africa – and also because of the marque’s local withdrawal in 2008. But we think it’s something to admire.

ST stands for Sport Tourer. For a wagon, it looks pretty sharp. Most think of Seat as a more youthful Volkswagen, this would serve as a “cooler” alternative to its cousin the Golf Estate. It almost looks like a slightly longer version of the current Audi A3 Sportback.

You just know it’ll drive like the business, since it relies on the Volkswagen Group’s new highly lauded MQB platform. It’s the usual range of turbocharged-petrol and diesel mills, powering the practical Seat. You can even have Adaptive Chassis Control – just like you’d have with the 2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Sadly, South African Seat fans in need of a wagon will have to look elsewhere. But we suppose they can take delight in second-hand examples of the versatile Altea, still circulating on the market.
