We’ve been dropping snippets here and there on the latest developments from Chery, particularly around the Tiggo 4 Pro model. This is because the Chinese firm was keeping all the details to themselves, but that has all changed now. The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro has officially been launched here in Mzansi, and we were there to witness it and pilot the vehicle on our very own roads.

What is the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro?

You’re looking at a stylish compact SUV. Chery is re-establishing its self in South Africa and with that, introducing a completely new range of Chery vehicles, starting with the Tiggo 4 Pro. This model “is the flag bearer of Chery’s new design language” says the firm, and in this hotly contested SUV segment, it looks the part. With automatic LED lights on specific models, the Tiggo 4 Pro comes prepped for the concrete jungle.

Chery has made the Tiggo 4 Pro available in a variety of vibrant colours, but what stands out is the red detailing on the SE variants. You’ll notice a red stripe on the lower front and rear bumpers, as well as on the side skirts. The Tiggo 4 Pro’s brake callipers have also received the red treatment. A sunroof is thrown in as standard in the Elite variant.

Acting as the command centre for the Tiggo 4 Pro’s systems is a 10.25-inch infotainment system that is configured for Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. However, if you’re old school there is Bluetooth, two USB ports and a DVD player depending on how old school you are. A reverse camera is part of the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro’s factory fitted equipment and is found on all models apart from the entry-level Urban.

The Chinese have equipped the Tiggo 4 Pro with a voice command system, arguably the one feature everyone enjoys experimenting with. You can tell the vehicle to do anything from opening the windows, to turning up the heater or closing the sunroof. On the safety front, the Tiggo 4 Pro is equipped with all the necessary aids, such as ABS, ESP, Traction control, Roll stability control, as well as Hill descent control and Hill Assist. 6 airbags are included for your safety and peace of mind.

Chery Tiggo 4 Pro consumption

With fuel prices reaching an all-time high, this is an important consideration when purchasing a vehicle, especially one that will be used as a daily car. A 1.5-litre petrol engine delivers 83 kW and 138 Nm in the naturally aspirated variants, while the turbo models receive a slight bump in output to deliver 108 kW and 210 Nm. All models make use of a CVT gearbox. We’ve attempted to get an official average fuel consumption figure on the Tiggo 4 Pro, but it seems the brand is not ready to release that detail yet. We’ll update you as soon as we receive something concrete.

Chery has so much faith in the resilience of this 1.5-litre motor that they’re giving customers a 1 million kilometre warranty on the engine alone. The next few years should give us a good indication of how reliable these vehicles are.
