A recall announced by Toyota will affect South African owners. The Yaris, Hilux, Fortuner and Innova are part of a campaign which involves seat rail springs and possible airbag malfunction.
According to Leo Kok, Corporate Communications Manager at Toyota South Africa Motors, the number of affected units is yet to be finalised. “Concerned owners are welcome to contact their nearest dealer and leave their information to be contacted once the campaign starts,” he said.
Previous generation Yaris models will be recalled to inspect and possibly replace the rail spring that secures seats in place. The pre-facelift Hilux, Fortuner and Innova models will be recalled for a separate issue involving the spiral cable attached to the driver’s steering column. In some instances the cable could wear, causing the airbag light to illuminate and the airbag to possibly malfunction.
“The corrective process in both instances will be very quick and will not cost owners anything, nor will it affect their service plan or warranty,” explained Kok. No issues leading to accidents have been reported in South Africa.
Concerned owners are asked to contact the Toyota call centre on 0800-139-111 for more information and to leave their details.
