The Audi A6 is a presence on the road; a sizable, comfortable saloon combining innovative technology, dynamic design and progressive features. It is a comfortable, technologically advanced alternative to its competitors in the same range. With the 2019 edition, it heralds the fifth generation of the mid-size luxury sedan.
Externally the A6 represents the instantly recognizable AUDI luxury curves. The latest models have an upgraded design with sharper features, including the headlights, the air inlets and the bumpers. Even without optional extra’s, the interior of the A6 looks and feels luxurious with standard leather seats, digital display and roomy interior design. These are some of the features that helped win it the overall Car of the Year at the 2018 “Carwow” Awards. In line with AUDI standards, it is roomy in the front and back with plenty of leg space and supportive seats and plenty of adjustment settings to ensure a comfortable journey. The back-seat can be a little cramped when you try to squeeze in three passengers because of the raised central seat and the big separating bump in the floor of the vehicle. The 530 litre boot will swallow up your luggage with ease.
Even without the optional Matrix LED headlights, visibility on the road is superior. Combine these features with driver assistance systems and you are ensured of a safe and reliable vehicle. Standard features include sunroof, power-open trunk with hands-free activation, smartphone interface, auto-dimming rear view and side mirrors, three-zone automatic climate control, electric power steering adjustment, eight-way power front seats with four-way driver lumbar and memory, heated front and rear seats, backup camera, navigation, 10-speaker AUDI sound system. Optional extra’s include 20-inch wheels, power trunk closer, power-folding side mirrors, four-zone climate control, ventilated front seats with passenger lumbar, top-view camera, 14-speaker Bang & Olufson sound system, automatic high beams and blind spot monitoring.
Performance-wise the A6 is now available with mild hybrid engines as standard to boost fuel economy, also available in diesel and petrol. The superior of the diesel options is the 40 tdi model with a front-wheel drive and seven-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Described as smooth and quiet for a four-cylinder diesel engine with fuel consumption of around 4.5 litres per 100km.
The more responsive 50 model includes the Quattro all-wheel drive and the 55 turbo, though quick out of the blocks, is slightly less comfortable and smooth.
All in all the A6 is a compact luxury sedan with capable performance and all the trimmings to ensure a tailor-made experience.
