Audi R8 for Sale
The Audi R8 is the high-performance two-seater sports car. Launched in 2006 and currently, in its second generation, the R8 is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo and is available as coupé and coupé cabriolet.
Exterior design upgrades between first generation (2006 – 2015) and second-generation (2015 – present) are quite significant although the first generation is by no means a dated look. The low profile, aggressive headlights and grille, sloping roofline, and cheeky backside with dual exhausts and minimalist boot spoiler, the whole look speaks of performance and capability. Dubbed as one of the best handling road cars, it was initially available in R8 4.2FSI coupé with V8 and R8 5.2 FSI coupé V10 engine. The cabriolet is branded as the Spyder.
The second-generation (2015 – present) is based on the Lamborghini Huracan, and in line with the understated elegance of the Audi design evolution, the younger of the two R8's is refined, sleek and unmistakably exuding an air of power and performance.
The R8 is an excellent example of Audi's slogan – Advance through technology. The R8 is partly assembled by hand with intricate laser inspections and checks before the final release. The popularity of the R8 was influenced by the clever brand placement when it featured in the Marvel franchise movies. The R8 was groundbreaking for the Audi brand, which until its release was known for luxury saloons and sedans. The high-performance aspect launched the brand into a new trajectory.
With enough power under the hood, matched with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive, a light body and handling and performance usually reserved for Lamborghini and Ferrari, the R8 is a sensible supercar, that drives with ease and comfort.
The interior is plush leather, minimalist sports-car fascia, and controls. Longer drives are comfortable with seats, so ease, and the direct steering feedback adds to the list of must-haves for a sports car.
The R8 is considered to be one of the more affordable high-performance cars, but fuel economy is not the first consideration when looking for a high-performance vehicle. Guzzling fuel at around 8.8km per litre, the earlier V8 is making you pay for its sports car performance. The best performance is in the later V10 model, still only around 8.5km per litre. But then, that is not what the R8 was designed for the V10 churns out 602 horsepower with 0 – 100km in only 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 333km. While the V8 4.2 litre produces 420 horsepower and reaches 0 -100km in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 300km. Driven with discernment, the overall wear and tear can be minimized and well-looked after R8's seems to retain their second-hand value.
