Ford Ranger for Sale

The Ford Ranger is one of those iconic bakkies that has been around for almost 40 years. The name was first used in 1958 in the USA on the Edsel Range of Ford vehicles. In the mid-1980s Ford launched its first Ranger bakkie and has been producing them since, with four generations on the roads. The first and second generation was designed by Mazda and the first Ranger is the predecessor of the Courier.

Available in double or single cabs, the option between back-wheel drive and all-wheel drive and depending on year and trim, a selection of petrol and diesel models. The wildly popular Ranger has earned a reputation of ruggedness and versatility and the later, younger generations also boast a bouquet of features while still being affordable.

The newer generations, specifically from 2009 models and younger, the exterior design becomes softer with curved panels and wrap-around headlights, prominent update grille and elegant sidebars as well as an updated bonnet silhouette and bumper in the younger models that make it a competitive buy.

The youngest available second-hand generations would be the 2018 model and have all the technology you would need with a dual touch screen display with Ford's Sync 3 system that displays content like music and phone settings on the one side and vehicle settings on the other. A USB port, infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto are available depending on the model and trim level. The facia and control panel are tasteful and intuitively laid out with not too many dials.

The cabin is spacious, even at the back and in higher trim levels you will be able to find full leather upholstery. Storage space inside does not disappoint either, in this model with storage spaces dotted all through the interior, including a sizable centre storage compartment and a built-in sunglass cubby. The top end of this generation Ranger has a more luxurious feel that competes very well with other contenders in its class.

Performance-wise the Ranger competes well. In 2018 the Ranger was voted as second most fuel economical double cab performing at about 6.9litre per 100km. The older Rangers (1984 – 2009) vary, between 7.2liter per km and 8,9 litres per km depending on year model, transmission and engine configurations. The Ranger 3.2liter diesel’s power output is174kw at 470Nm torque, making it ideal for towing or simply confidence when taking over a slower vehicle. Its generous ground clearance and the all-wheel drives' all-terrain capability add to the allure of the Ranger.
