Hyundai Tiburon for Sale
The Hyundai Tiburon is the Korean manufacturer's sporty coupé. It was produced from 1996 to 2010 and there are two generations on the road. The predecessor of the Veloster and replacement for the Scoupe, the second generation is by far the better option of the two available. The first (1996 – 2002), manufactured with Hyundai as a brand was still finding its feet in the international market and trying out styles and design language, is not what you would expect if you were looking for a refined sports car, but also not the worst out there.
The second-generation (2003 – 2010) was a great improvement on the first edition, with a sleek hatchback design, elegant boot-spoiler and all-over feeling of aerodynamics and sportiness. Tiburon (a play on the Spanish word for shark) second generation was overall much better designed and definitely lived up to the appearance of the name. It was still however not as good a seller as predicted, probably due to brand awareness and market share of the manufacturer at that point. There were several face-lifts with the look gradually evolving to a more aggressive look.
Interior-wise there was no reason to stand back from its competitors. It is a well-designed cabin with instrumentation that is on par with its competitors. Fabrics and finishes do not have a cheap feel to them and are a step-up from previous Hyundai releases. The seats are comfortable bucket seats and the driving position is acceptable. A well-designed fascia, with minimalism and practicality in mind, the controls and information are easily accessible, user-friendly and neat. Space is fair, even in the back, considering it is a coupé with a hatch-back sloping roof it can still accommodate two adults with reasonable comfort. The back seats can fold forward to allow more loading space in the boot.
The Tiburon was released in two engine configurations; 2litre petrol with 5-speed manual gearbox and 2.7 litre V6 with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 2litre produces around 102kW while the V6 packs a 130kW punch. While the V6 will be the obvious choice the 2litre is no slowpoke and the interestingly enough not a lot of difference between the fuel consumption of the two models. The 2litre will perform at around 7.3 litres per 100km and the V6 at around 11.7litres per 100km. The Tiburon is a great entry-level sports coupé.
