Volkswagen Golf V for Sale

The Volkswagen Golf V a.k.a Mk5 or Golf 5 is the successor of the Golf 4 and was manufactured from 2003 to 2009. This generation of the Golf included some changes, both aesthetically and technically.

The external design was given a face-lift to remain not only relevant but competitive. The curves became more pronounced and elegant, wheels were redesigned and head- and taillights were given a makeover to enhance the smooth and rounded feeling of the look and feel.

The interior was also changed from its predecessor. While the Golf 4 was released with top of the range quality materials, the Golf 5 opted for more practical every-day use. The Golf 5 moved into a niche space for the more luxurious Audi A3 to take up the banner of the Volkswagen luxury brand. The dashboard plastics and finishes are pedestrian but user-friendly and upholstery practical. The cabin size slightly increased because of an upgraded chassis and increased luggage capacity slightly.

An incredible variety of engine configurations were offered from the 1.4ltitre 16 cylinders to 2litre Turbo’s in petrol and the 1,9 and 2litre TDI diesel. Depending on model and powertrain 5 or 6-speed manual, Tiptronic automatic or top of the range DSG gearbox is available in second-hand models. In South Africa the most popular where the Volkswagen Golf V GTIs with its sporty looks and more than enough power to make for an enjoyable ride. This model was offered with optional extras including sunroof, iPod connectivity, leather trim, ABS breaks, metallic paint options, 18-inch rims, and multifunction steering. The 2litre engine produces 145kW power and its top speed is around 230km per hour. The gearbox is swift and responsive and bolsters the sporty character of the model. It corners with ease and has a satisfying roar for any GT driver. Urban/long drive consumption is at around 7,8 liters per 100km.

The Volkswagen Golf V GT has resulted in a following of fans that swear by its performance and nippy driving ability. This hatchback opened up a brand new market for Volkswagen and even though it is a slightly more pricy option in its class, its durability and brand following have remained steady.
