Volkswagen Golf Vii for Sale
The seventh generation of Golf’s compact car, the Volkswagen Golf VII a.k.a Golf Mk7 was introduced to the market in 2012 and is still manufactured. It has won acclaim as the trendsetter in the compact and hatchback class and won a string of awards in the US, Europe, and Asia.
The exterior design was largely kept the same as its predecessor with minor enhancements until 2016 when Volkswagen released the first major face-lifted model (exterior and interior). The design remains true to the Volkswagen brand with elegant lines and smooth surfaces combined with sporty grille and light updates.
Depending on the year model and trim, the interior has changed significantly with technology and infotainment on offer that is on par with luxury vehicles and competitors in its class. The cabin is well thought out and more spacious than most of its competitors. The driver position and visibility are superior, and finishes are of high quality. The controls and the touchscreen units are all intuitively placed. The younger models are reminiscent of the Audi Virtual Cockpit. Storage capacity is fair for a hatchback compact with an assortment of storage spaces dotted throughout the cabin. The boot capacity is sufficient for its usage.
The handling of the Volkswagen Golf VII is smooth and responsive. The grip on the road provides for excellent cornering once again ensuring that whether used for quick city rides or a road trip, the Golf 7 will not disappoint. Available in South Africa as GTD, GTi and R variants the surprising model is 1litre TSI. Known as the micro-sized turbo engines, the smaller engine by no means implies sluggishness or lack of power. Superior technology and a 6-speed manual gearbox provide 200Nm of torque and generate 81kW of power. This model’s consumption is around 6.2litres per 100km for combined use. The TSI 1litre is also fairly priced and combines Volkwagen's quality and durability with excellent technology.
Optional creature comforts in the younger models of the Golf VII (2017 – present) include Driver-assist features like rear traffic alerts, blind-spot alerts, and cruise control and autonomous braking system. Swiveling tow-bar and park assist implying that the Golf 7 can tow without any hitches, saying something for the performance of such a small engine.
Hybrid models are also slowly entering the South African market, although not as many on the second-hand market.
