The C-Class has been produced in a four-door sedan, five-door station wagon, two-door coupe and three-door hatchback variants over the years.

The second-generation boasted a range of inline-four and V6 petrol engines and inline-four and -five diesels, later the V6 diesel. The C320 offered the powerful 160 kW (215 hp; 218 PS) while the diesel models featured common rail direct fuel injection and variable geometry turbochargers. The 2012 facelift featured new LED taillights, a revised dashboard and instrument cluster layout, and revised front fascia and headlights.

The current generation features a new, lighter structure using aluminium and high strength steel extensively throughout the car, making it 100kg lighter. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class 205 chassis spawned four C-Class body styles: sedan, wagon, coupe, and cabriolet.
