Ford Ikon Cars For Sale

The Ford Ikon car is a subcompact four-door sedan that has been in production since 1999 and is currently in is now in its second generation. The first generation was based on the hatchback Ford Fiesta and locally assembled. In 2007 the manufacturer launches the new face-lifted generation Ford Ikon in South Africa. Designed for dependability, user-friendly interior and affordability, the Ikon might not be an icon in itself, but is a perfect solution for a small family or a first-time car owner. The Ford Ikon car for sale was particularly sought after by company fleets and car rental agencies, because of its low running cost and utilitarian design.

The external design is reminiscent of the current Fiesta, following the design language continuity of Ford. The four-door Ikon car for sale has a cheeky presence on the road with pronounced curves and compact and sturdy presentation.

Cabin design has been well thought through to offer a versatile sedan. Maximum headspace makes travelling a comfortable experience in this compact sedan. Loading space is generous for its size and visibility is excellent; all factors that add to the reason for being a successful fleet car. Interior fabric upholstery and hard plastic are durable though not in the least with a feeling of substandard quality. Other standard comforts include electric windows, intermittent window wipers, electric fuel cap lock, remote boot release, central locking, and a CD player. The cabin is comfortable and quiet enough, with several storage options and cup-holders dotted through the interior.

Dual airbags, ABS brakes and Ford’s Passive Ant-Theft System with immobilizer are all standard safety features. The suspension provides for a comfortable drive with acceptable driver control. The IB5 Five-speed manual gearbox seems to be the better option when choosing a second-hand model, with better ratios and less noise.

The last generation of Ikon’s are available in three engine configurations; 1,4 liter and 1,6-liter petrol and the 1,4liter turbo diesel. The most powerful of these are the 1,6liter petrol that produces 74kW of power and consumes 7.7litres per 100km. The 1,4liter turbo diesel’s combined consumption is recorded at 5.5litres per 100km.
