This vehicle is Hyundai’s offer in the sporty, hatchback coupé class. While facing stiff competition in this class, the Veloster has a very unique exterior design and stands out on the road. It's broader, lower design hints at great handling and cornering capability. A distinctive feature of this vehicle is clever although unusual use of three doors instead of the traditional coupé. On the driver's side is one slightly elongated door and on the passenger side two doors, solving the traditional issues with coupé class cars. With this design solution, the look is still coupé but the practicality is of a semi-sedan.

The interior is Hyundai functional. The control panel is not luxurious but fit for purpose, practical, accessible and easy to operate. Hyundai has made a lot of effort to provide technology as standard in the Veloster. Standard models include Bluetooth, a large LCD screen, Radio/CD/Mp3 with aux and USB connectivity, rear-facing camera with rear park distance control, auto light control, steering wheel mounted controls, electric folding mirrors, and one-touch power windows. The only optional extra is Satellite Navigation. This full bouquet of tech certainly rivals competitive vehicles where most of these features are only available as added extras.

Another surprising design feature is the spaciousness of the back seats, accomplished by a low hip position. Combined with the three-door solution, this added feature is an industry innovation and could mean stronger competition with other vehicles in this class. With the Sport model, leather seats and panoramic glass roof are added options.

As with the comprehensive technology in this model, safety features are also numerous. The car carries a 5-star EuroNCAP rating. It is fitted with standard six airbags and active safety features include Vehicle Stability Management; Active Yaw Control; Electronic Stability Programme (ESP); an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS); and Electronic Brake Distribution.

Performance wise, the Veloster is closer to the rest of the Hyundai stable with economic and acceptable but not true sporty performance expected in this class. The 1.6litre model performs at a modest 138 bhp while handling is swift and responsive.

The Veloster hints at future competitiveness in this market section and its exterior design remains a unique form on the road.
