The Porsche Boxster was launched in 1996. It is a mid-engine two-seater sports car manufactured and marketed by the German marque. The four generations of Boxster have been marketed as a two-door, two-seater roadster (Boxster) and since 2005, a three-door, two-seater fastback coupé (Cayman).
Since the fourth generation in 2016, the two models have been marketed as the Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman.
The name Boxster is a portmanteau (blended word) of the boxer, a reference to its flat or boxer engine, and roadster, a reference to the body style.
Since the redesign launched in 2017, there have been some slight changes:
The Porsche 718 Boxster is a fun-to-drive, two-seater, luxury convertible. By class standards, it is not ridiculously expensive. The Boxster features a range of lively engines and thrilling handling. The car is highly customizable and reliable.
People often find themselves trying to choose between the Porsche Cayman and the Boxster. The two are almost identical, except that the Cayman is a fixed-roof coupe rather than a convertible and has a bit more boot space. Both are two-seaters with similar powertrains, handling, trims, and features.
